Agent Steel
Títle Order of the Illuminati (2003)
Label Scarlet Records

"Order of Illuminati" is the fourth release of these Americans that had been silent for three years (not gagged in a cache, it's the time it has taken them to make the record since their previous "Omega Conspiracy").

Giving my opinion on this record is somewhat complicated for me, given several contradictions run through my mind. For starters, initially, we could say that they play old school Thrash Metal; the first Metallica could be a good example to get the picture, at least as regards the rhythm base, since the rest are combinations of Power and Speed Metal, with some Brainstorm as well as some Metallium details, sadly.

On vocals we have a mutation between Geoff Tate (Queensryche) and Bruce Dickinson. Everything perfect here, except for the fact that the voice is too high for a thrash band.

And from here on, the record starts incredibly well, with the great song "Avenger", but we soon realize that even in this song, which is one of the best on the record, they insist on too many things, becoming repetitive in some riffs or verses, and resulting in songs that are too long.

The Power-Speed-type guitar solos help making the record less monotonous, although maybe not enough. Maybe this same record with less and shorter songs could make listening to it a bit easier and would probably improve our opinion on it.
