Amorphis
Títle Fsr from the Sun (2003)
Label Virgin

Sorry to say this, but I think this is this month's disappointment. Amorphis had always characterized themselves by a constant evolution throughout their long career. Here, in this "Far From The Sun", I believe their intention was to repeat the sound of their masterpiece (from my point of view, of course), their previous "Am Universum". The consequence is a very cold record, lacking the feeling and quality of their previous release. Amorphis are a Finnish sextet, and it shows; however, in this case, and in their eagerness to focus on the sound, very seventies aesthetically, they haven't managed to capture the essence of their latest songs, as opposed to the sound, and have lost the label of a band that constantly reinvents itself. For me, this is the first mistake they have made in their whole career. I am not saying that this is a horrible record. Not at all. "Far From The Sun" includes magnificent songs, but the whole record does not match the category of this great band, with which I declare myself officially disappointed, following a several month-long eager wait for the continuation of one of the records of the century, their previous "Am Universum". I hope that their next release will manage to pleasantly surprise me as was usual until today.
